Render Theory

The universe as a rendering system, a thought experiment.

What if reality is not matter, but something that is read and rendered? Below are the assumptions, what they account for, and where they break.

Storage: a block universe. There is a storage layer: a structure from which experience is read out. What we call past, present and future all lie in it as data. The passing of time belongs to the reading, not to the structure itself.

Projection: a sphere. The observer reads their own location and renders what is needed: a sphere around them, built up here and now. Only what is looked at is rendered, and no deeper than needed. The image is curved but has no depth; the sense of depth is rendered with it as experience.

Read-out speed: a constant. The experience of space and time is read from the block universe at a fixed speed: the speed of light. That speed divides between movement through space and movement through time, so what goes faster through space has less left over for time.

Resolution: analogue. The rendering produces the Planck scale. The storage is analogue.

Where the model breaks. Something that renders implies something doing the rendering. But this model says there is no physical outside. This page does not say what does the rendering. Where the storage sits, and how reading becomes experience: that stays open.

A complete but unproven framework. Offered to think through, by whatever render engine happens to be reading it.
